When Terri “T” Collier was accepted to compete in the 2024 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge (HHMC) – a grueling ride from Daytona, Florida to Homer, Alaska, her goal was to complete the challenge and raise $75,000 for Kickin' Childhood Hunger. Thirteen exhausting yet grand days after she set out—days filled with pot-holed roads, swarms of bugs, mechanical breakdowns, sleeping under the stars and what she called "God moments"—Terri completed the challenge.
On August 16, as she and her trusty motorcycle, "Miles," crossed the ten-thousandth mile at the finish line in Homer, Alaska, she discovered she had already surpassed her goal, raising $80,369. With a gala held in Stillwater still to come, she hoped to push that number past $100,000.
Terri arrived home on August 22 to a gathering of her supporters, Kickin' Childhood Hunger Board members, workmates from BancFirst and friends at the Stillwater Regional airport. The board members brought a check representing all the donations she’d brought in– a total of $120,000.
“The impact of the money that she raised–just on her part–is almost immeasurable. The amount of kids, very deserving kids, that will help feed in the radius that KCH supports, is just amazing,” says Roger Demaree, President of Kickin’ Childhood Hunger.
Not only for Kickin’ Childhood Hunger, but in the Hoka Hey annuls, Terri is on her way to setting a new record. Elizabeth Durham, Director of Operations at HHMC, reported that 'T' has raised more money than any rider in the past 14 years. The fundraising will continue until November 30, with an awards ceremony to be held next June for the riders who raise the most money.
“For those who know Terri,” adds Roger, “she’s one of those gals that— just tell her she can’t do something and (laughs) she’s gonna go get it done.”
