Uwe Gordon submits retirement letter to Board of Education
This week with mixed emotions, the Stillwater Board of Education received a letter from Superintendent Uwe Gordon announcing his intentions to retire effective June 30, 2025.
In recent months, Mr. Gordon has been and remains out of the office on medical leave while recovering from an illness. In his absence, the Board appointed Dr. Janet Vinson as Acting Superintendent, and she continues in that capacity.
Mr. Gordon’s message to the Board of Education follows, and is being shared with his permission.
Dear Dr. Baker,
I write this letter with the utmost gratitude and appreciation to you, the board of education and all of the personnel at Stillwater Public Schools. I’d like to announce my retirement, effective June 30, 2025.
Ever since I started teaching 41 years ago, I have had nothing but positive memories and experiences. I appreciate the professional opportunities I’ve been given throughout my tenure such as principal of Stillwater High School and Superintendent of Stillwater Public Schools.
I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank you personally for making my experience as superintendent so special. Working here has truly been an honor. Although this situation is bittersweet for me, I look forward to the arrival of my second grandchild in April.
I wish nothing but the best to you and the faculty and staff of Stillwater Public Schools going forward. I feel as though I’m leaving SPS with strong leaders, future leaders, excellent teachers and a strong support staff. The future is an exciting prospect, and if there is any way I can assist you or the team, please don’t hesitate to ask. I really do love Stillwater Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Uwe Gordon
The board will consider a vote to accept Superintendent Gordon’s retirement at the next regular meeting in January. The board will also meet to create a plan for a transition to the next superintendent and will share those details as they develop.
The Stillwater Board of Education wishes Mr. Gordon the best in his continuing recovery.
