Stillwater Public Schools to host Family Engagement Night
Submitted by Mr. Barry Fuxa, SPS Stillwater Public Schools invites families to an exciting and informative Family Engagement Night on
The Stillwater Public Library and Town & Gown Community Theatre are partnering to offer a free acting class for pre-teens and teens in grades five and up on Friday, March 7, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. At “A Night with Town & Gown Theatre” attendees will participate in fun acting games and activities, try on costumes, practice reading from scripts and more.
This event is best suited for teens passionate about acting and theatre classes, though no prior experience is required. Free pizza and beverages will also be provided by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library.
“When the library’s Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) asked that we have an acting program, it seemed like a great way to expand our partnerships,” said Jordan Stine, teen librarian. “That led us to Town & Gown, who have been kind and gracious enough to help us with this program.”
Town & Gown member Jacob Boyd will assist with the library program and serves on the theatre’s board of directors. Boyd is thrilled to offer a class to help encourage another generation of actors, which seems especially appropriate since 2025 marks Town & Gown’s 75th anniversary.
“An important part of Town & Gown’s mission is to engage with the community – not only through the presentation of plays in our theatre but also through outreach to individuals and groups in Stillwater,” Boyd said. “We love connecting with young people and teaching them important lessons about public speaking and performance.”
Boyd also hopes that teens will see this program as a chance to learn about the production of plays at their local theatre and that they will learn skills that can help them if they want to be future volunteers or actors.
“We want to make sure teens learn basic acting techniques as well as tips and tricks to memorize lines,” Boyd said. “Doing a program like this allows local teens to learn backstage and technical skills they can use in future theatre productions. Even if they don’t end up joining our family, the lessons they learn by attending this program give them the tools to succeed in all areas in the future.”
