🏠︎ The Longest Night, Done Right 🌞
Tomorrow is the longest night of the year. Plus free a Community Christmas Dinner, Live Music, and of course some Santa!
The Stillwater Public Library is holding a trivia program for teens in grades 6-12 on Friday, Dec. 13, from 6-8 p.m. “Fandom Friday: Nightmare Before Christmas Edition” is a trivia program where teens will compete and answer themed questions with friends about the classic holiday film.
According to the University of California’s counseling center, being part of a fandom can benefit mental health. The three benefits listed on their website are anticipating positive events, being part of a community and learning coping skills from favorite characters.
Teen librarian Jordan Stine knows the joy of fandoms and how they can unite people.
“I hope this program will be a fun way for teens who love all things ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ to meet each other and build a community with a shared love of pop culture,” Stine said.
Attendees will participate in six entertaining rounds of trivia involving characters, events and songs from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Questions can be answered via a smartphone, tablet or paper and pencil.
Stine looks forward to having a trivia night just for teens.
“My friends and I go to trivia every week, and it’s always really fun to put our heads together and try to win prizes,” Stine said. “Most trivia nights are geared toward adults and include harder questions on broad topics. I think it’ll be fun for teens to experience something similar but at a level appropriate for them.”
The Friends of the Stillwater Public Library will also provide pizza and beverages for attendees.
Registration is requested to ensure there are enough prizes and pizza for participants. To sign up, visit stillwaterok.gov/LibraryRegister, stop by or call the Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106 or email askalibrarian@stillwaterok.gov.
