🏠︎ The Longest Night, Done Right 🌞
Tomorrow is the longest night of the year. Plus free a Community Christmas Dinner, Live Music, and of course some Santa!
The Stillwater Public Library and Meridian Technology Center (MTC) are partnering to offer two free digital literacy workshops. “Computer Basics” will be taught on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m., and “Internet Basics” will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. Registration is required as space is limited.
Instructors from MTC teach the workshops, both of which will take place at the library. The library has laptops for attendees to practice on at the workshop. Those who register and attend will get a free USB drive, and their name will be entered into a drawing for a Chromebook.
At the “Computer Basics” workshop, attendees will learn how to navigate the Windows 10 operating system, manage applications using the task manager, find and manage files and folders, save and delete files and more.
“Internet Basics” will cover basic terminology, functionality, and navigation of Internet browsers, search engines and websites.
Brenna Gilchrist, adult services librarian, is delighted to provide more computer learning opportunities for the community.
“We’ve held several workshops already and it is always wonderful to have so many people leave with new computer skills,” Gilchrist said. “We hope to have more workshops out and about in the community in the future to make it easier for people to attend.”
Organizations that would like to partner with the library and MTC to host a workshop at their location can contact the Help Desk at 405-372-3633 x8106 or by email at askalibrarian@stillwaterok.gov. Past partnerships have included Our Daily Bread, the OSU Family Resource Center and Mockingbird Estates.
The curriculum for the workshops comes from DigitalLearn.org and is designed by the Public Library Association and AT&T as part of their grant to help improve digital literacy nationwide. The library received a Digital Learn grant in 2023 and is still using funds received to provide free technology workshops in Payne County.
