The Stillwater Public Library’s 2024 summer reading program “Adventure Begins at Your Library” launches into its first week of fun programs for all ages. Beginning Saturday, June 1, participants can begin tracking their reading to earn prizes. Also, on June 1, families can attend a free outdoor foam party at 11 a.m.

“The kickoff is a great opportunity to get everyone registered for summer reading while celebrating the library’s official start to summer,” said Elizabeth Murray, children’s librarian.

All ages can register online using Beanstack, an online reading and activity tracking portal and app, that makes it easy to manage reading and prize logs for the whole family. Find the library’s Beanstack page at stillwaterok.beanstack.org or visit the library’s website.

Regular weekly programs launch for kids on Tuesday, June 4, with “Game On! Glow Show,” featuring glow-in-the-dark juggling and unicycling with Jeremy Philo from Inspyral Circus. The kids' programs run for about an hour and are held twice a day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday performances are geared toward school-age kids from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Teens in grades six through 12 launch their weekly events that occur on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. with "Musical Jeopardy" on June 5. During the two-hour music trivia contest, teens will compete in groups to guess the artist and the title of the songs played. There will be prizes for the top three teams.

Adults can join in the summer fun while enhancing their culinary skills at “Adventures with Spices,” hosted by Olimpia’s Baking Studio, also on Wednesday, June 6, at 6 p.m. Olimpia Timudo Ochoa will delve into the world of spices and herbs and share tips on how to reduce sodium intake without compromising on flavor. Space is limited, and registration is required at tinyurl.com/SPLSpiceAdventure.

The first summer movie will be shown on Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will run 92 minutes. The PG-rated film follows the adventures of an octopus, fish and shrimp who head out to find a new home after their colony gets accidentally destroyed. Visit the library’s website for a listing of movie titles that will be shown throughout the summer.
