Readers, bibliophiles and anyone in search of a good book to read can find thousands to pick from at the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library’s fall used book sale Thursday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 22.
“The variety of books available at the sale is astounding,” said Library Director Stacy DeLano. “Whether you are looking for fiction or nonfiction, mystery or sci-fi, books for kids or adults, the sale is bound to have some titles that interest you. Plus, the prices are unrivaled.”
Hardbacks cost $1, paperbacks, CD-books, music CDs, DVDs and vinyl records are 50 cents and children’s books can be purchased for a quarter. Sales tax is not charged, and the Friends accept cash or checks as payment. Credit and debit cards are not accepted.
“There are always some great finds at the sale,” DeLano adds. “Whether you collect vintage or out-of-print titles, LPs or cookbooks, you’re always bound to run across something interesting.”
The sale begins on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5-8 p.m., with the “Preview Night.” It costs $10 at the door to enter unless attendees have already purchased a lifetime Stillwater Friends of the Library membership. Please note the entry fee structure changed at the spring book sale, requiring an entry fee to be paid per sale rather than for the whole year. Buyers at the preview sale are also limited to purchasing 100 items total, including 50 children’s books.
On Friday, Sept. 20, the sale opens to the general public from noon to 8 p.m. and continues Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the remaining items become part of the $1 bag sale, where shoppers can fill a bag with books of their choosing for $1. The Friends provide bags, and there is no limit to the number of bags that can be purchased.
Book donations for the Friends sale are greatly appreciated and are accepted all year. Carts are available and staff can assist as needed. Donation receipts for tax purposes can also be requested.
“Community donations make the Friends biannual book sales possible,” DeLano said. “The proceeds from the sales fund library programs, including the summer reading program, community reading events and more.”
Beyond donations, the Friends also need volunteers to assist with the book sale. Anyone interested in helping should contact the Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106 or email askalibrarian@stillwaterok.gov.
